Flu vaccinations – now in stock!

Flu season is just around the corner! We thought it was the perfect time to share some information on why annual flu vaccinations are important, and how you can receive yours.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

I was vaccinated last year! Why do I need to be vaccinated again?
The influenza virus is constantly changing, so getting vaccinated every year means you are best protected against the most recent and common circulating strains. Your protection from the influenza virus declines over time.

When is the best time to be vaccinated?
Vaccination is best undertaken between March and May, in anticipation of Australia’s peak flu season between June and September.

How do I get vaccinated?
The vaccination is given as a needle.

What is the difference between a private flu vaccination and a Government-funded flu vaccination?
At-risk or vulnerable patients are eligible for a free Government-funded flu vaccination each year, however all other patients will be required to pay a small fee of $20 each for their private flu vaccination.

The following people are currently eligible for a free Government-funded flu vaccine:
– Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 6 months and over
– Children aged 6 months to under 5 years
– Pregnant women at any stage of pregnancy
– People aged 65 years or over
– People aged 6 months or over who have medical conditions that mean they have a higher risk of getting serious disease:
– cardiac disease
– chronic respiratory conditions
– chronic neurological conditions
– immunocompromising conditions
– diabetes and other metabolic disorders
– renal disease
– haematological disorders
– children aged six months to 10 years on long term aspirin therapy

If you are unsure if you are eligible for a Government-funded vaccination, please book an appointment with your regular doctor to discuss.
